David Wright might be on his way out of Citi Field. Per the New York Post, the Mets will listens to offers for the all-star third baseman. This move would leave the Mets with gaping holes to fill at third base, as well as shortstop upon the departure of Jose Reyes. Wright's statistics have dropped each year since 2008, and he is due $15 million over each of the next two seasons.
Changes are on the way for Citi Field, though it was only built three years ago. Substantial dimension changes will be made in order to turn the home of the Mets into a hitter's park. Adam Rubin reports that there will be a modest reduction in depth, with the right center field wall being moved in approximately 25 feet. Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson does not believe his team will be gaining an advantage, but will be shedding a disadvantage.
New Marlins skipper Ozzie Guillen has recently made his feelings known regarding his past with the White Sox. Bashing Sox General Manager Kenny Williams, as well as Pitching coach Don Cooper, Guillen has burned his bridges with the South Side. As NBC Miami points out, the Marlins have had a history of PR trouble. It likely won't be long until Guillen begins his rant against Marlins officials.
Sun Life Stadium, new home of the Miami Marlins, will be adding a pool party option for fans. A club with dancers, DJs, and a pool will be added behind the left field wall, compliments of Clevelander. The club will be known as "La Playa".
Jose Reyes is likely to be pursued by the Florida Marlins. Hanley Ramirez recently told new manager Ozzie Guillen that he would move to second base in order to make room for Reyes.
Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman and closer Craig Kimbrel have been nominated by fellow players as candidates for the National League's Most Outstanding Rookie award. The 22 year old Freeman led all rookies in batting average, hits, doubles, on base percentage, and slugging percentage. Kimbrel set a rookie record with 46 saves and 127 strikeouts.
Gary Walker has been named the new hitting coach of the Atlanta Braves. Walker spent eight years as the hitting coach of the White Sox, and resigned after this season.
All six of the current Phillies coaches will be returning next season. Bench Coach Pete Mackanin has been a popular name in managerial discussions, though per The Examiner, no teams have contacted the Phillies about hiring him.
Nationals 2011 manager Davey Johnson will likely retain his spot in 2012. Named the interim manager after the sudden retirement of Dan Riggleman in June, Johnson earned a three year contract extension with Washington. The contract guarantees him a front office job is the team wishes to hire another manager.
